Tips to prepare your hotel for the holiday season

It's the last quarter of this year, and before you know it, Santa Claus will be coming to town and Christmas markets start popping up everywhere. It's the time of the year that friends and family come together, so prepare yourself for the holiday season, and all those families and friends can come together in your hotel!


  • Packages and rates

Is your hotel located near a Christmas market? Or is the hotel the ideal location for families to stay during the holidays? Take advantage of this by offering special packages, for example, a 3-day Christmas package including dinner. You could also play around with your rates, raise them a bit because you already know that you are going to be fully booked during the holidays. Or if your location isn’t as festive during the holidays, lower them a bit and fill those empty rooms!


  • Visibility through good marketing

Make sure that you are visible for potential guests as price differentiation alone is often not enough to attract them. Send out a newsletter to promote your packages, or ask the booking sites how they can help you to stand out. I am pretty sure that they have plenty of great ideas.

When using social media, you can also promote the packages on those pages or post messages about what is happening in and around your location.

You can also transform your website into a Christmas theme. But don't forget to change it back to normal after the holiday season is over. πŸ˜‰


  • A festive ambience on location

A big Christmas tree, Christmas lights everywhere, background music and accessories for each employee; bring on the festive cheer as much as you like. Get the Christmas spirit in the guest rooms with decorations or surprises like a small tree, a tasty treat or perhaps hang up a Christmas stocking with a small gift in it. 

Lastly, you can consider changing your menu (breakfast, lunch and/or dinner) during the holidays. If you don't have the time or capacity to change the menu, think of adding a small festive details instead.



I think we can conclude that everyone can go as wild as they want with the Christmas preparations. Whatever you decide to do, I really recommend spending time on your rates and packages strategy. You don't want to miss revenue during the holidays, just because you didn't plan it on time.
